We invite students to investigate the story of Witney and the industry that made it world-famous.

Learning Objectives

  • Develop historical enquiry skills by examining a range of sources, including oral histories, objects, and documents, to investigate Witney’s blanket industry and local heritage.
  • Uncover the impact of the industrial revolution on Witney.
  • Make connections between past and present by reflecting on how local industry shaped the town’s identity and considering the relevance of heritage today.

  • Understand the social, economic and technological changes during the Industrial Revolution and their effect on communities.
