Cool off in Culture at The Witney and District Museum!

The recent extreme temperatures and amber heat-health alerts affected all of us, but for those of us who can’t escape the heat at home easily, the heat can quickly become a real risk. Adults aged 65 and over, babies and young children, and people with chronic health conditions face the highest risk of severe illness in hot weather – and we’re delighted to be able to offer a free*, trusted community space to help people stay safe.

We are proud to be one of 100+ cultural spaces offering people in the UK’s places to cool down during a heat wave, all part of Cool off in Culture, a joint project from The BFI, Arts Council England, LIVE Green, and Julie’s Bicycle.

Our Museum faces north, sitting on the left side of Gloucester Court Mews as you enter it from Witney High Street. This can mean it’s a touch chilly in the winter – but gloriously, refreshingly cool in the summer. And we have two floors of treasures from Witney and the surrounding areas for you to explore, including our newly refurbished Bartlett Taylor Gallery. Due to the nature and age of the building, that upstairs gallery is accessed by stairs and so is not accessible for people with mobility issues.

*Entry to the Museum is entirely free but donations of *any* amount are welcome, to help us continue providing this space and collection.
