Actor Gugu Mbatha-Raw grew up in Witney, where her love of performing began with local dance classes, drama groups and productions with Witney Dramatic Society. In this interview, Gugu reflects on her childhood in the town, her time at Henry Box School and the opportunities that helped set her on the path to drama school and an international acting career.
She talks about moving from Witney to RADA, the West End, Broadway and Hollywood, as well as some of the people and productions that have shaped her career. Gugu also discusses her work as a Goodwill Ambassador for UNHCR and why, after travelling and working around the world, returning to Witney still gives her a strong sense of home and grounding.
